Please support me!

I’m taking on the Mega Miles Challenge in support of the Charity for Civil Servants.

The Charity for Civil Servants supports current, former and retired civil servants when they face tough times.  From mental health struggles and financial assistance to relationship issues, getting through grief, and coping with disability, they’re here to help people stay strong, whatever life brings.

They’ve been there for civil servants for over 137 years, providing an umbrella of support when it’s needed most and so I'm fundraising to make sure they can be there for future generations too.

Bank Holiday Weekend

Tuesday 28th May
The long weekend saw me walking in a local forest, situated parallel with the M27 (a major motorway on the south coast. It's an unexpected oasis with ducks, water birds and woodland and a favourite weekend walk of mine when i have more time to spend. Foxes forest as the locals call it, no idea why, i have never seen any foxes there, offers some shade and nature on the edge of a busy naval city. Did you know Portsmouth is the UK's only  Island city?  the island is separated from the mainland by Portsbridge creek where the Hilsea Lines (18th an 19th century fortifications, bridges and tunnels, to protect Portsea Island from the north) still stand, though overgrown. The original way of crossing the creek was by stepping stones following by a single track for pedestrians and horse drawn carts. Now there are 3 roads on and off the island and the bridge across the motorway that i use, that goes straight to the forest.  Anyway, it's a lovely peaceful place to walk and a favourite of mine.

Walking Challenge for 2024

Friday 17th May
On 1 January 2024 i challenged myself to walking an average of 10,000 steps a day for the year. This is month 5.  In January I walked a total of  302, 813 steps (130.12 miles). In February, I walked a total of 334,332 steps (146.43 miles). In March I walked 322,951 steps (139.55 miles) and last month, April, I achieved a whopping 354,159 steps (153 miles). At the end of April i'd reached a total of 449.10 miles. I'm on track. I would really appreciate your support in getting through May, I'm on my second pair of walking shoes and am breaking them in which is causing me a bit of discomfort... please donate if you can or send me some encouragement, i would really appreciate it. Have added some photos of an early evening view across the creek where the majestic Portsmouth Sails welcome drivers to the city in early May and a photo looking towards Horseguards Parade from St James' Park, London on Wednesday.
