Please support me!

I’m taking on the Mega Miles Challenge in support of the Charity for Civil Servants.

The Charity for Civil Servants supports current, former and retired civil servants when they face tough times.  From mental health struggles and financial assistance to relationship issues, getting through grief, and coping with disability, they’re here to help people stay strong, whatever life brings.

They’ve been there for civil servants for over 137 years, providing an umbrella of support when it’s needed most and so I'm fundraising to make sure they can be there for future generations too.

My Updates

All Done & Dusted!

Friday 31st May
Where has May gone!!
Pleased to have completed the challenge with a more active day...if I've calculated correctly I achieved 84 miles in May, more than anticipated, & made use of  a weekend away, walking with friends and whilst volunteering to surpass my initial goal.
Hopefully the steps/miles will collectively raise a generous amount for any one of us who may need help in future.
Well done to everyone.

Almost there!!

Wednesday 29th May
Only 2 days left but managed to squeeze a long walk in with a friend whom I've not seen for some time due to work commitments & the opportunity for a welcome catch-up this evening.
I'm aware other colleagues have been more accomplished with the miles & steps they've completed however, walking a little and often has still enabled me to exceed my original target for which I'm thankful.
If you're thinking about supporting Team Coventry by contributing with a donation,  please do so, every little counts.🚶‍♀️🚶‍♀️🚶‍♀️

Double the distance 3 days to go!

Tuesday 28th May
35miles was the cautious starting distance aiming to walk at least 1 mile per day in May.
Trying to ensure that I would commit to something daily whilst being able to continue to work around other activities/expectations but also making the most of other opportunities to be active at weekends and complete a few longer walks. I guess Friday evening will reveal all.....

Less rain!

Monday 27th May
It was forecasted to be a bleak damp Bank Holiday Monday so thoughts of an adventure were set aside for a decision to continue my quest to tame my garden......all seemed good for dry weather until noon so I potted up, sewed some more seeds (as earlier ones seem to have been munched on by creatures unseen) and some mammoth weeding, before attempting to plant  out some new investment perennials to fill in gaps instead of the weeds. Now whilst not contributing lots of miles my trundling to & fro in the garden followed by a jaunt to the city centre still clocked up over 2 miles and a dull ache from the bending and stretching from this morning. So far it seems I'm at approx 60 miles and hopefully a few more in the next few days.

Parkrun Day

Saturday 25th May
I marshalled at my local Parkrun this morning, so I wasn't adding to my step count, but I was gaining a huge amount of satisfaction cheering the participants around.
Made up for steps walking to pick up some gardening provisions & plants followed by a bout of weeding in my garden which involved copious amounts of to & fro/bending & stretching so +4 miles today is rather satisfactory to me!

Missing Steps

Thursday 23rd May
Late realisation that I hadn't add steps I'd walked at the beginning of this adventure so although not a huge quantity over the 3 days they've still added up & I guess every step counts and most of my Saturday steps on 4/5/24 were completed during my volunteering at the last Coventry City home game of the season!
As I've already passed my original target I will continue to see how many I can achieve between now & 31st..
Happy weekend everyone!

Rain didn't stop play!

Wednesday 22nd May
Having a yo-yo time with distances - doubting I would reach my initial 35 mile target during evenings after work & weekends, I was rather pessimistic and reduced it to a 25mile target however, a weekend away and an improvement in our erstwhile weather I increased the mileage back to 35 miles. To my delight and being on leave has helped me beyond 35 miles ,even in the rain! So let's see how many I can complete by the end of May!

Increased distance....

Friday 17th May
Amazing how the miles add up just by walking to or from the gym or shopping, especially after reducing my initial distance from 35 to 25miles, after my seaside adventure last weekend I increased it back to 35miles but with a couple of weeks left, and getting to 33miles I think I will just see how many I can reach rather than increase the distance again!
Happy walking everyone....sunshine helps but feeling good too 🙂

Seaside Park Run/Walk....

Saturday 11th May
A change of scenery is as good as a rest, as the saying goes....
So here I am in a gloriously sunny Weston Super Mare starting my day joining in with their Marine Parade Park Run route, whilst hubby did the running bit. A great way to start the day with breakfast afterwards looking out to sea....as the tide was still in!
Refuelled from breakfast and a quick change of attire, some further steps taken, with the odd pause for a ride on the 'Big Wheel' a cool drink & ice cream and feet up for the open top tour bus for a different perspective that's 7.4 miles and 23964 steps (so far!  how many can be added by midnight??) Having reduced my miles to 25, I may increase them back to my original 35 miles!?

Sunshine miles help bring smiles

Thursday 9th May
I don't know about you, but after 4 months of mainly grey wet days or no rain but still grey clouds and cold northerly winds it was with some trepidation that the walking challenges weather would be with the same!
Oh, thank you, May!! Sunshine to entice me out, the visible signs of nature being enticed into action too,  whilst on my adventures. Such joy to behold! Please stay a while Mr Sunshine & Mr Blue Sky it's so fabulous to see you & feel the warmth 💙 🌻🪻🌷🦋🐞🐝⛅️🌞
