Please support me!

I’m taking on the Mega Miles Challenge in support of the Charity for Civil Servants.

The Charity for Civil Servants supports current, former and retired civil servants when they face tough times.  From mental health struggles and financial assistance to relationship issues, getting through grief, and coping with disability, they’re here to help people stay strong, whatever life brings.

They’ve been there for civil servants for over 137 years, providing an umbrella of support when it’s needed most and so I'm fundraising to make sure they can be there for future generations too.

My Updates

May Miles Run 19 (and final run!)

Friday 31st May
And that's a wrap! Last run of the challenge completed taking me just over 55 miles in total across the whole of May! Thanks so much to everyone who's supported me throughout and those who kindly donated ❤️ Never did I think I would have enjoyed it this much when first taking on the challenge but here we are 🙂 I think I might put my feet up over this weekend before hitting the tarmac again but safe to say its become a healthy habit now! 🏃‍♂️💪

May Miles Run 18

Thursday 30th May
We did it! That's over 50 miles run across the whole of May! 😀😀😀🏃‍♂️ I couldn't of done it without all the kind donations and moral support I've received from colleagues, friends and family throughout the challenge ❤️ Not only have I reached my running target but we've also smashed my £100 fundraising target, and as of writing have raised £123 for the Charity for Civil Servants!

May Miles Challenge Run 17

Tuesday 28th May
So close to the finish now! Thank you so much to everyone who had donated and helped me smash my target 👊🫶🏃‍♂️‍➡️

May Miles Run 16

Monday 27th May
Decided to have a go at 5.5km (roughly 3.5 miles) as my regular run and found it on par with my usual 5km. Worth highlighting not only does a challenge like this do amazing things for an amazing charity, but is a great way of improving your own physical and mental wellbeing with outdoor exercise ❤️🧠

May Miles Run 15

Friday 24th May
Over the 40 mile mark and onto the final week of the challenge now! The finish line is well within site and with a bit of luck I might complete it a few miles over target 🏃‍♂️👊

May Miles Run 14

Thursday 23rd May
Bit of a shorter one today (mostly just because it was an office day) but nonetheless we keep progressing! Just under that 40 mile mark now 💪

May Miles Run 13

Tuesday 21st May
Another 3 miles done today! Bit of an eventful one towards the end as I was chased by a farm dog! 😂🐕 That'll teach me not to run too close to the farmer's land entrance 😂 Thankfully made it back with no bites though 😅

May Miles Run 12

Monday 20th May
Smashing those 5Ks now! Going to keep these going until the finish line! 🏃‍♂️‍➡️💪

May Miles Run 11

Sunday 19th May
My longest run yet! Hitting that 4 mile run despite the hot weather! ☀️ Feel like I'm fully back into the groove and put myself in a brilliant position to hit my 50 mile target (or who knows maybe even a little over ⬆️) 🏃‍♂️‍➡️👣

May Miles Run 10

Friday 17th May
Official over the halfway point now! 💪👊 Another 5k run todat takin the total to just over 27 miles! Feels like the target is well within reach now 😀

May Miles Run 9

Thursday 16th May
Longest run I've ever done (well since I was a kid anyway 😂) today which I'm very happy with. Not the greatest time but good thing this challenge is all about the distance 🏃‍♂️💪

May Miles Run 8

Wednesday 15th May
Back is feeling a lot better today so getting back up to those distances I want to be doing as a minimum! Almost halfway there now! Thanks again everyone for your donations, only £29 off the target now! Let's keep going 😀

May Miles Run 7

Monday 13th May
Plan for today was to get back to 5ks now its cooled down some. However, annoyingly had to cut this one short due to constant pain in my lower back from about 1km onwards (and hence the awful time and pace). Hopefully it'll have fixed itself by tomorrow🤞 but eithier way we keep going 👊🏃‍♂️

May Miles Run 6

Sunday 12th May
Another hot one today! Hopefully these thunderstorms make it a little milder for next week so I can get back to my 5ks!

May Miles Run 5

Friday 10th May
Forgot to post the update yesterday. Another sweaty one today (well yesterday now)! Decided to take a different route than usual to make the most of tree cover. Over a quarter of the way to 50 miles now! 👊🏃‍♂️

May Miles Run 4

Tuesday 7th May
Another 4k (c. 2.5 miles) today and a very sweaty one with it being 18°C outside! Trust summer to decide to arrive now!

May Miles Run 3

Saturday 4th May
Another 5k today! Much better time than yesterday and certainly didnt pain me as much to do 😀

May Miles Run 2

Friday 3rd May
Still can't get the Strava to connect to the page properly so I'll be doing manual updates each run 🙂 First 5k (3.1miles) of the challenge today. Will be trying to do this distance regularly throughout the challenge 💪🏃‍♂️‍➡️

May Miles Run 1

Wednesday 1st May
First run today of 4.03km (just over 2.5 miles) a good way to start the challenge. Had to upload a post for this one as Strava wasn't properly connected to the fundraising page for some reason but fingers crossed I've fixed it and all my runs from tomorrow should start coming through from there.

My Goal and Why?

Friday 19th Apr

Hi everyone,

I’m taking part in the 2024 Mega Miles Challenge and would love you to support me by donating to my fundraising page: https://fundraise.cfcs.org.uk/fundraisers/kanecarlile.

With April being Stress Awareness Month I wanted to do something myself to help others struggling with issues around stress and mental health. Recently I took up running to improve my physical health but also found it had a huge positive impact on my mental health from the get go. Around the time I started running regularly I also came across the May Mega Miles Challenge which fundraises money for The Charity for Civil Service, helping fellow civil servants through stressful periods in life such as money struggles, grief, and family caring responsibilities.

As a relatively beginner to running I have set myself a target to run a minimum of 50 miles over the whole of May, hoping to raise at least £100 for The Charity for Civil Servants (although if I could raise more that would be amazing), helping out our fellow colleagues who are struggling with life stresses and mental health.

When starting this on 1st May I’ll be providing regular updates of each run I do on my fundraising page so that if you wish you can track my progress 😊

Your donation will allow the Charity for Civil Servants to support former and current civil servants with the tough stuff like money troubles or mental health struggles. Here’s how your donation could help:

  • £5 could provide online support for carers feeling isolated

  • £15 could help a family cope with rising energy costs

  • £25 could enable an elderly couple access to vital legal advice and help them plan for the future

  • £50 could pay towards food bills for someone unable to afford their weekly shopping

These are just a few examples of what each amount of money could do but any amount of donation is very much welcome 😊

Thank you for your support.
