I’m taking on the Mega Miles Challenge in support of the Charity for Civil Servants.

The Charity for Civil Servants supports current, former and retired civil servants when they face tough times.  From mental health struggles and financial assistance to relationship issues, getting through grief, and coping with disability, they’re here to help people stay strong, whatever life brings.

They’ve been there for civil servants for over 137 years, providing an umbrella of support when it’s needed most and so I'm fundraising to make sure they can be there for future generations too.


I've pledged 155 miles in May which equates to 10,000 steps per day and I'm looking to run 100 miles of the 155 total.

Friday 31st May
early morning run. 11.75 miles total and 103.43 for the month done, dusted and never again. 16997 steps done, have taken my watch off at 8:30am and no longer counting steps. 

May 30th

Friday 31st May
No running today, steps only ahead of the last big run tomorrow. 12809 steps mostly walking the dog.

May 29th

Friday 31st May
Houghton Harriers run session at Hetton Lyons. 2 near vertical hill runs and some 1k efforts. 5.2 miles ran in total 13001 steps.

May 28th

Wednesday 29th May
gym and walking only today. 11156 steps done.

27th May

Wednesday 29th May
Pleased and surprised to get in 10.5 running miles with a hangover. a mixture of rain and sun throughout the whole run. torrential towards the end. 18343 steps in total. up to 86.5 (ish) miles ran in total. Run club on Wednesday and a final run on Friday should get me over the 100 mile line.

At a Wedding, didn't wear my garmin as didn't match the outfit. 2343 steps recorded only for the day.

May 25th

Wednesday 29th May
Biggest run to date from Ryton to the Quayside and half way back. Shins still hurt but after a couple of mile it seems to go away. 12 miles ran at a steady pace with 20384 steps overall for the day. 

May 24th

shins are hurting a lot still. 2 miles very slowly on the treadmill after the gym. 16745 steps total for the day.

23rd May

Couldn't face a run after last nights ordeal. walking only today with 7588 steps

May 22nd

Wednesday run club in monsoon conditions. soaked to the bone ad a very difficult hill session. 6.05 miles ran, 13171 steps total. just under 62 miles ran. 38 to go in 9 days. Grim.

Gym and 4 mile run on the treadmill at a slow pace. 14775 steps total

Monday Run Club at Silksworth Track - 5.1 miles ran, 12238 steps total

Hungover recovery walks at quayside market.13926 steps.

Day at Doncaster Races. Steps only 11707.

3 miles on the treadmill in the gym between weights. getting miles in wherever possible now. desperate times.

May 16th

9 mile run and 16523 steps. Longest run for a while and need plenty more of them to make the 100 mile target.

May 15th

4175 steps only. quiet day trying to get some recovery into the legs.

morning walk to try and loosen up the legs after the Sunderland 10k then shorter running club session of 3.23 miles. 12631 steps in total

12th May

Monday 13th May
Finally back to running with the Sunderland 10k race and a PB by 3 minutes. 16206 steps in total and 6.25 Miles ran. Up to 31.6 miles out of the 100 - lots of work still to do and behind schedule.

11th May

Steps only again. red hot day spent gardening and bbq'ing. 8817 steps.

10th May

Monday 13th May
Working in Leeds so good number of steps between office and train station. Total 10180. Did plan on a run when home but train was cancelled and stood all the way home on a red hot train. Decided to go drinking instead Friday night - too hot to run!

9th May

Thursday 9th May
16538 steps. 5.37 miles run with the running club at hetton lyons country park. Hot and swallowed several midges. 25 running miles clocked, 75 to go.

May 7th

7517 steps, walking only. a nice stroll around sunderland city centre on lunch as some form of summer weather appears to be coming.

May 6th

Tuesday 7th May
Back to Monday running club with a new pair of asics gel-nimbus. 5.5 miles running, 19660 steps total.

May 5th

Tuesday 7th May
A hungover bank holiday Sunday walking the dog in chucking down rain. Amazing. 16802 steps walking only.

May 4th

7 Mile run and being out on the drink all day really helped with the steps :D - 32147 total steps

3rd day of the challenge. 10937 steps walking only.

2nd day of the challenge - resting the legs after the first day with 5229 steps, walking only.
