DIT Team Mega Miles Challenge - Awesome Work!
Hi DIT Team,
I wanted to share a quick update on our fundraising challenge – and what an effort it’s been so far! You’re all AWESOME!
As a team, we’re currently sitting 4th across the entire Civil Service… just outside the medal spots. So close! Wouldn’t it be brilliant if we could push ourselves onto the podium in this final stretch?
The progress so far has been genuinely impressive. Together, we’ve clocked over 1,650 miles – that’s roughly the distance from Bristol to Rome, or a full return trip from Bristol to the Scottish Highlands and back again. Not bad going at all!
On top of that, we’ve raised nearly £850 for a fantastic cause. With just a bit more momentum, breaking the £1,000 barrier by the end of the month is absolutely within reach.
The best part? It’s still not too late to get involved. Whether you:
- Join for the final week
- Log a few extra miles from your daily walks, runs or cycles
- Or gather a couple more sponsors
Every contribution makes a difference and helps push us closer to that podium finish.
A huge thank you to everyone who’s already taken part – the energy and commitment across the team has been brilliant to see. Let’s keep it going and give it one final push!
Regards,
Rich
Mega Miles – Let’s Get Moving! 🚶♂️🚴♀️🏊♂️
I’m genuinely delighted to see DIT taking part in the Mega Miles challenge this year—and even better to see a good number of you already getting stuck in. It’s a brilliant initiative, a great cause, and a fantastic way to inject a bit of energy (and friendly competition) into June.
That said… we’re currently only at around 10% of the team taking part. Which means there’s a huge opportunity for the rest of you to get involved, help raise a bit more money for a very worthwhile charity, and maybe even surprise yourselves along the way. And on that note—it’s worth celebrating that we’re currently sitting fifth on the fundraising leaderboard across all teams, which is a fantastic achievement already. Imagine how far we could climb with a few more of you on board!
A special shoutout as well to Michelle Napper, who has led the way on fundraising so far with an impressive £144—an amazing effort and a great example of the impact we can all have.
Now, if you’re anything like me, you might be thinking, “This all sounds great, but it’s probably a faff to track everything…”. I can assure you—if I can do it, anyone can. I’ve pushed my technical capabilities to their absolute limit and somehow managed to link my Strava and Garmin watch to the platform. And to my surprise, my swims, runs, and bike rides have all been magically converted into steps. It’s like having your own personal automation engine ticking away in the background—Jay and the Automation Garage would be proud!
The best bit? Once it’s set up, it pretty much looks after itself. Worst case, a pen and paper / laptop will do. 😊
And don’t worry if you’re thinking it’s too late to start—we’re ten days into June, but there’s absolutely nothing stopping you from joining in now. Every step still counts, and every contribution still makes a difference.
So I’d really encourage you to have a go. Whether it’s a walk at lunchtime, a run after work, a cycle at the weekend, or even just making sure your daily movement is being captured—it all adds up.
Also, for next week’s update, it would be great to showcase some of what everyone’s been up to—so if you’re out and about getting your steps in, feel free to send in any photos of your walks, runs or rides. It’d be brilliant to share these and celebrate the effort across the team.
Let’s see if we can get well beyond that 10% and show what DIT can do—not just in delivering brilliant services, but in coming together for a great cause.
Go on… give it a go. Your future step count (and the charity) will thank you!
Thanks,
Richard and the BMT
Please support us!
We're taking on the Mega Miles Challenge in support of the Charity for Civil Servants. Make a donation to our page and let’s go one step closer to making sure no civil servant faces life’s challenges alone.
Every penny we raise helps to ensure our free, confidential support is there for colleagues when life gets tricky, from money worries and financial help to wellbeing and mental health support.
For colleagues like Hannah, that support can be life-changing: “I couldn’t even put into words how terrible it was. I was really unwell by this point and stress just took me out. I ended up taking time off work from anxiety. It’s about having someone to listen to you and tell you you’re going to be alright”.
Your donations will go further thanks to Baringa
A big thank you to our Supporting Partner Baringa who will match your fundraising pound for pound up to £5,000 - helping your fundraising go further!
“Civil servants play a vital role in delivering essential services and driving long‑term change, often under intense pressure. At Baringa, we are proud to work alongside government and public sector organisations to help them meet these challenges. Partnering with the Charity for Civil Servants on the Mega Miles Challenge is an exciting step forward, allowing us to deepen our support and help make a meaningful difference for civil servants across the UK.”
