Finish!

I love it when a plan comes together!  It's been a great month and I'm over the finish line.  A lovely sunny day along the Roseburn path heading north.  With one mile left to walk I felt elated - thinking about the  beautiful west Edinburgh and the gruelling 10km run around Arthur's Seat.

I'm in quite a reflective mood having suffered Long Covid for a number of years.  A condition exacerbated with exercise.  Over the last 6 months that has eased off and I've enjoyed life again - getting fit and doing the Mega Miles Challenge!

Thanks to all who sponsored me, the Edinburgh Marathon Festival, the Charity for Civil Servants and my friends and family.

Edinburgh Marathon Festival!

The big day had arrived!  10 kilometres around Arthurs Seat and it was a challenging run.  Starting off with a hill!      Lots of hard work around me (including my brother) and some old folk giving it their all.    Half way I did ask one of the medics for a lift but was unfortunately declined.  The final stretch was a glorious downhill towards Dynamic Earth and a wonderful crowd.   My time was 1 hour and 10 min and I even got a medal  (though I was in 2828 place) - very generous!

Next 10km will be in August on a flat and fast path along the coast.  I'll be raising money for MacMillan Cancer Support.

West Edinburgh's hidden beauty

Having enjoyed the Water of Leith and the Union Canal I decided to try the Almond River and walk to Cramond on the Firth of Forth estuary.  I arrived in the village of Newbridge but I couldn't find a way that followed the water!  So I headed along some busy roads until I luckily stumbled upon a path that headed towards Queensferry.  This was a relief and I was soon in the quiet beautiful countryside.  Besides a few people it was a tranquil journey and after 4 miles I headed east to the quaint village of Dalmeny. I then walked further east along an excellent cycle path straddling the A90 to Cramond.   Beautiful day!

Mega challenge

Hi,

Thanks for visiting my page.  I'm in the middle of the challenge  and  I am enjoying it!  The weather is great and everybody is out in the sunshine.

I decided to do the Megamiles Challenge as  having a goal is a big motivator.  I also like being part of something big that does some good!

So far I've done 11 miles of the challenge which has included a local run around the canal, gardens, and pathways of West Edinburgh.   There are some very nice places to walk and run around here so feeling pretty lucky.

I did a 7 mile run from Balerno to Gorgie last weekend.  I didnt know what to expect but the whole of the Water of Leith is a great path  - paved and ideal for even footing.  I did, however, get mobbed by clouds of midges which ,thankfully,  only lasted half a mile!

I've been working towards the Edinburgh 10K, which is next week, and I hope to get a time of 1 hour and 10min.

Today I'm going to walk the Almond River, which is in West Edinburgh, a 10km route Newbridge to Cramond.  I've read some good reviews and it's a sunny day!

Please support me!

I’m taking on the Mega Miles Challenge in support of the Charity for Civil Servants.

The Charity for Civil Servants supports current, former and retired civil servants when they face tough times. From mental health struggles and financial assistance to relationship issues, getting through grief, and coping with disability, they’re here to help people stay strong, whatever life brings.

"When we didn't know who to turn to, the Charity was our life raft. We grabbed onto it when we felt like we didn't have anything to hold onto. It gave us answers to a question when we didn't have the answer ourselves... and it was so important to have that support at the time."
Graham

They’ve been there for civil servants for nearly 140 years, providing an umbrella of support when it’s needed most and so I'm fundraising to make sure they can be there for future generations too.
