The Pre-Award Peak Challenge

By Sophie Hodgson

Please support my fundraising

The Corporate Services & Property Pre-Award team (SOs and HOs) are fundraising for the Charity for Civil Servants, a HMRC-approved charity that supports current, former and retired civil servants through some of life's toughest moments.

Whether someone is facing financial hardship, mental health challenges, bereavement, disability support needs or relationship difficulties, the charity is there to provide practical help when it is needed most.

To raise funds, our team will be taking on a charity hike in the Langdale Valley in the Lake District on the 23rd of September

Starting from the National Trust car park near Dungeon Ghyll, we will follow a steep climb alongside Stickle Ghyll to Stickle Tarn, which sits 473 metres above sea level. Depending on the weather and how adventurous everyone is feeling on the day, we may continue up and around Pavey Ark at 700 metres before making our way back down.

With some first-time hikers taking part, the challenge will be tougher for some than others, but everyone is looking forward to giving it a go. Led by a seasoned hiker, our group will aim to complete the route in around six hours, so this is definitely more than a leisurely stroll.

As with any day in the Lake District, the weather will have the final say. A bit of drizzle will not put us off, but anything more severe may require some sensible decision-making along the way.

We would be hugely grateful for any support from colleagues across the Commercial Directorate, whether that is through a donation or simply cheering us on. Every contribution helps the Charity for Civil Servants continue supporting civil servants and their families when they need it most.

Thank you for your support!!

Go girl, I did this years ago and still want to get back to Stickle Tarn. I remember hiking up in a tea shirt in March , then having a snow ball fight with Americas at the top of Pavey Ark. Did my 1st and only scree run on the way back down. Now I would stay in the hotel and be carried by chair!
