My why...

What you don't see in the photo above...

The photo below was taken on 24th April 2024 at the summit of a scenic walk in southern Snowdonia. What you don't see is that at one point on the ascent, I felt breathless and my heart was racing so hard I thought I was doing permanent damage. I decided I needed to do something about my fitness.

Since then, I've gradually upped my daily step count by walking more and my daily step average in the year since then is up over 50% on the year before. In July, I started running through a 5km plan, completing my first Parkrun in August 2024. I've gone on to consistently run 3 times a week, finishing my first half marathon in March 2025. My Strava stats tell me I've run over 350km in 2025 so far.

The difference simply moving more has made to my mental health has been unreal. I no longer feel anxious, my mind is at ease and I'm so much happier for making regular movement part of my daily routine.

I'm constantly planning my next run... so I've decided this May to take on the 155 mile Mega Miles challenge to put my new found love of movement to good use. I'm so grateful for what my body can do and the flexibility my job provides to fit in those runs on cold winter mornings.

Others aren't so fortunate, so I'm raising money for the Charity for Civil Servants to help those who've fallen on difficult times. I'd be very grateful for any donation you feel able to make.

Please support me!

I’m taking on the Mega Miles Challenge in support of the Charity for Civil Servants.

The Charity for Civil Servants supports current, former and retired civil servants when they face tough times. From mental health struggles and financial assistance to relationship issues, getting through grief, and coping with disability, they’re here to help people stay strong, whatever life brings.

"When we didn't know who to turn to, the Charity was our life raft. We grabbed onto it when we felt like we didn't have anything to hold onto. It gave us answers to a question when we didn't have the answer ourselves... and it was so important to have that support at the time."
Graham

They’ve been there for civil servants for nearly 140 years, providing an umbrella of support when it’s needed most and so I'm fundraising to make sure they can be there for future generations too.
