Please support me!

I’m taking on the Mega Miles Challenge in support of the Charity for Civil Servants.

The Charity for Civil Servants supports current, former and retired civil servants when they face tough times.  From mental health struggles and financial assistance to relationship issues, getting through grief, and coping with disability, they’re here to help people stay strong, whatever life brings.

They’ve been there for civil servants for over 137 years, providing an umbrella of support when it’s needed most and so I'm fundraising to make sure they can be there for future generations too.

All done.

Tuesday 28th May
So, after 3 weeks of daily (ish) walks I've gone over the target of 70 miles, but, have I met the personal targets/reasons for doing this challenge that I set for myself?
First, to raise money: absolutely! Thanks to my generous sponsors, the £50 pledge has in fact been exceeded to £63; I couldn't be happier.
Second, to get a bit fitter: we're getting there. I've lost a couple of inches off my tummy, which I'm thrilled about; I've found I have more energy and I'm less likely to procrastine more intensive jobs around the house. I've bought myself a treadmill too, so that on those rainy days I can still get my five miles in.
Third, to do it now while I still can: well, I did it. It took me longer than anticipated, but I bloody well did it. 10 years ago, even 5 years ago I really don't think I'd have even contemplated something like this, and now I have a fitness plan and much sunnier future to look forward to.

Hmm!

Monday 20th May
Welp, looks like 70 miles over 2 weeks was a bit ambitious! I've had to take some days off the challenge for my physical health, which I sort of anticipated, though not quite as much as reality has proven!
The biggest motivator is knowing that I've hit my target amount for funds raised (and gone over a wee bit, thank you sponsors!), and I'll be damned if I don't hold up my end of the bargain to make those sponsors proud. So, here's to laying off using the lift in the office, it's only 12 flights of stairs!

Almost done with week 1!

Tuesday 7th May
Wow, nearly half way through the challenge, how did that happen?!
Day 3 was fairly uneventful, I took myself for a walk around the estate while listening to Random Number Generator Horror Podcast No. 9 (yes, that's the full title!).
Day 4, I was joined by my husband for a wander (read hike!) around Middleton Park. Hubs has started playing Pokemon Go again as a bit of extra motivation, and I'm happy to report that his pokedex is filling up rather quickly, between the cries of "Oh an Eevee!" and "Right, time for a masterball!" We did end up walking along the BMX bike track for some of it, though thankfully no actual BMXers seemed to be out that particular Saturday. Regardless, I had a wonderful time hanging out with my husband.
Day 5 took me again on a solo perambulation around the estate, and a little further afield.
I have to be honest, I took Monday the 6th off. As someone who has not made exceptionally healthy life choices, going from a baseline of sedentry living to 5 mile walks every day, I'm noticing some discomfort. On the plus side, my psoriasis has cleared up considerably on my face from all the UV exposure I've been getting, and I've noticed that I'm not napping in the evenings after a walk. Most unusual!

Ups and downs

Friday 3rd May
So, we're on day three of the Mega Miles Challenge, and already I've had a (very minor in the grander scheme of things) breakdown! Day one I missed the target of 10k steps and got very upset with myself. Thankfully, my husband was there to pep talk me out of it. Day 2 yielded much better results, see photo, after going for a long walk around the estate I live on, food shopping, and then walking home rather than getting the uber we both (husband included) wanted! I am so blummin' proud of us for sticking with it and going above and beyond. The fish and chip tea might have helped too!

Why am I doing this?!

Wednesday 17th Apr
Well first and foremost, the Charity for Civil Servants is an incredible resource and deserves the funding through and through.
Second, I'd like to be a bit fitter! 33 is by no means old, but I'm starting to feel the effects of a not exactly healthy lifestyle.
Third, I have a chronic illness which may prevent me from being able to do this sort of thing in the future, so why not get cracking with it now?
I'm pledging 10,0000 steps every day for 2 weeks with the aim of raising £50, starting from the 1st May. Think I should be able to manage that!
