Please support me!

Hi. I’m taking on the Mega Miles Challenge in support of the Charity for Civil Servants.

The Charity for Civil Servants supports current, former and retired civil servants when they face tough times.  From mental health struggles and financial assistance to relationship issues, getting through grief, and coping with disability, they’re here to help people stay strong, whatever life brings.

They’ve been there for civil servants for over 137 years, providing an umbrella of support when it’s needed most,  so I'm fundraising to make sure they can be there for future generations too.

Total Distance Completed in May - 1️⃣4️⃣0️⃣ miles:

     🏊‍♂️ Swimming - 10.0Km / 6.2 miles.

     ⛸️ Ice-skating - 91 miles.

     🏃‍♂️ Running      - 43.5 miles (1 marathon, 3 parkruns & 7.5m free-running)

On 12th May I'll be 🏃‍♀️ running the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon on (26.2miles), so I'm needing to be a bit creative and make the 70 mile target more interesting. Therefore, I'll also complete 3 seperate Parkruns (9.3 miles). Due to tapering & recovery after the marathon, the remaining 34.5 miles will made up of a combination of 🏊‍♂️ swimming and ice-skating ⛸️.

Your donation will allow the Charity for Civil Servants to support former and current civil servants with the tough stuff like money troubles or mental health struggles. Here’s how your donation could help:

  • £5 could provide online support for carers feeling isolated
  • £15 could help a family cope with rising energy costs
  • £25 could enable an elderly couple access to vital legal advice and help them plan for the future
  • £50 could pay towards food bills for someone unable to afford their weekly shopping

Thank you in advance for your support.

Adam 😊

My Updates

Challenge Accomplished! 🏊‍♀️ ⛸️ 🏃‍♂️🏁 😊

Total Distance Completed in May -  1️⃣4️⃣0️⃣ Miles:

     🏊‍♂️ Swimming - 10.0Km / 6.2 miles (400 lengths).

    🏃‍♂️ Running      - 43.5 miles (1 marathon, 3 parkruns & 7.5m free-running).

    ⛸️ Ice-skating - 91 miles.

Please note, the skating distances recorded are based on my moderate walking pace which is 8,000 steps per hour (4mph). My true skating distance & pace for this challenge will be many times greater than recorded I.e. skating at moderate pace it only takes 7-8 steps to skate across the length of an ice rink.

My main motivation in taking part in the Mega Miles Challenge was to raise awareness & funds for the Charity, any hopefully encourage others to join in or get fit.

I didn't honestly expect to reach the 70 miles target within a wewk of completing the Leeds marathon. However, I received enough genuine support & encourage to double the target distance to 140 miles and reached it on the final day in May.

Marathon Completed

Sunday 12th May
Completing the Rob Burrow's marathon (26.2m/42.5Km) in Leeds was a real challenge & and a painful experience. It's been 5 years since I last ran above a 1/2 marathon distance and had never done a course so hilly or in such high temperatures. Due to already completing 2/3 of the 70-mile May challenge, I was already a bit tired. Parking a mile away from the starting line and being guided to the wrong entrance meant I set off when everyone else was long gone & out of sight. It was a well organised, fun, and supportive atmosphere, so I would consider doing it again. Thanks for your support! 😊
